More random bits.
As I was looking through my pics, I found a few that I wanted to blog about but never did:
Our neighbors dog, Hunter, climbs through the oleanders and into our yard almost daily. Peyton (& I) have grown to love this little guy. But what's sad, is they've since gotten rid of him because he was always getting out. Peyton still says, "Hunya (Hunter)" when we go outside, waiting for him to come over. *Tear.
We went to the Goodyear/Avondale Centennial Parade. It was Peyton's first parade and he loved it!
We spent an afternoon sitting under the pecan tree, cracking nuts & eating them.
Peyton got a haircut at Steve's barbershop. He did great as usual!
Best car line-up yet:
As we were walking out of Trader Joe's, I ran into a fireman (not a bad way to add some excitement into your day, haha) who invited Peyton for a quick peek inside the truck. He opened the door and it was filled with more firemen (score! haha) who were SO SWEET with him. You can tell they deal with children often. Peyton loved it! And a few weeks later when we left the store again, there was no fire truck but Peyton remembered because he pointed to where it was and made the firetruck sound.

This little thing we call LIFE.
Here's a little more of what we've been up to during the last month!
My dear friend Rachel and her family were in AZ for a wedding. Although they couldn't stay with us this year (no extra room in our house, *tear), we did see them quite a bit!
We had a play date with my friends Megan & Siobhan during Spring Break. It's so nice watching the boys play in our back yard while relaxing in the sun. Love this time of year!
We attended Steve's good friend Aaron's little sister (did you get that?!) wedding at The Royal Palms. It was stunning and we had a great time!
My dad came over to play with Peyton on St Patty's Day, so Steve and I took the opportunity to get our grub on some Irish food and have a Guinness. YUM.
We went to the Spring Carnival at Mt. Carmel (church/school). Our friends Pat & Molly's kids go to school there and Molly teaches. She asked me to donate my signature (ha) cake pops so I made up a batch and off we went. It was a HUGE event, with rides, food galore, and games. It was more than we were expecting!
I had lunch with my friends Melissa & Lauren. We ate at Pita Jungle on Roosevelt & 3rd Ave. Never been to that location and it was awesome. Both of them are preggo with their first, so that's exciting!
I took Peyton the the Phoenix Zoo last week. Trying to get in as many trips as possible before the scorching hot summer comes along.
My friend Haydee moved to the Willow District in Phoenix, so we had a play date with her last week. I LOVE her cute house and neighborhood. We went to the park and it was so cool having a view of downtown Phx with all the buildings in the background. Felt like a movie set.
Steve came down with the flu and was in bed from Thur-Sun. Peyton and I got a cold, which I'm still getting over. AZ was hit with a nasty week of what was almost the worst of the flu season, last week. We're so happy we were able to participate! ;)

Here's a few things we're looking forward to:
CARLSBAD!!! About this time every year, we start talking about it. I CANNOT WAIT.
Easter! I'm excited about putting together Peyton's basket. :)
This springtime weather! Instant mood upper - looking at the weather on my phone and seeing clear skies & warm temps. (okay, so the 91* scares me a little)
And what I'm loving right now is some Eddie Vedder. I'm listening to Pearl Jam and can't help but be in a good mood. When did I become as obsessed with them as my husband? I would say it was when I watched the documentary on them last year. :)

Peyton didn't want to bounce on the big blowup bounce houses,
instead he wanted to ride this:

All Aboard Peyton's 2nd Birthday Party!
We had such a great time celebrating Peyton's 2nd Birthday! It was a gorgeous day out, perfect for an outdoor party.
We had about 50 family & friends over to help celebrate. It was a train theme, and everything turned out exactly how I'd imagined it (thank you Pinterest!) It was so much fun putting this party together. We never could've pulled it off without our parents - a big THANK YOU to them!!! And a thank you to our friends & family for coming over and celebrating with us!
*I figured a slideshow was the easiest way to display all my pics.
There's about 25 pics in each slideshow! :)

A worst nightmare (partially) come true.
One of my worst nightmares when we moved into our new house was that Ginger would get out & get hit by a car. My other, even worse nightmare, was that Peyton would get out. The reason for this anxiety is because we live off a semi-busy street with a constant flow of cars during the day.
Well, Ginger escaped this morning (Steve was at work) and I'm still coming off of the shakes from it all. I just KNEW that she would get out eventually, as it seems to somehow happen a few times a year. And to make matters worse, she wasn't wearing her collar, which we take off because when she shakes, it's super loud...
I took out the trash with Peyton, shut the gate, and before I knew it, Ginger was walking past me in the alley. Let's clear this one up -- she squeezed through a space between the gate and the oleanders which I didn't even know existed until today. I am super careful about shutting the gate/door behind me for this reason alone.
She started acting all spastic and I knew it was over. A, what felt like 30 minute chase but was probably more like 15 minutes, is what followed.
She took off down and around the alley to Campbell, the main street. Peyton was chasing after me as I was chasing after Ginger. Once I hit Campbell, I just sat there and freaked out as Ginger ran up and down the sidewalk. A (weird) man riding a bike in the bike lane freaked out when he saw her and swerved into the road, which caused the car behind him to swerve into the oncoming traffic lane -- my major freak out moment #1 (besides from the fact this was really happening).
Now Ginger's in our front yard, Peyton is by my side, and Ginger darts across the street. I finally think straight and take Peyton inside where I told him to watch us out the window (he thought this was a fun game).
For the next 10 minutes, Ginger is roaming the yards & darting back and forth across the busy street. She approaches a man walking and I tell him she's nice and to please grab her. He tries, only for Ginger to get all spastic on him, which freaked him out and he was outta there (can't blame the poor guy.) I loose sight of her for a few minutes, all while imagining someone taking her and with no collar on, keeping her.
The she comes out from behind the house across the street, only to dart across the road, then dart back. Half the cars don't see her as they're driving down the road, and the other half see her as she's getting ready to dart across the street -- a handful of cars had to slam on their brakes while she crossed the road, only to give me a nice, dirty look, all while I'm in panic mode thinking, "WHY THE HELL ISN'T ANYONE STOPPING TO HELP ME?! HHEEELLLPPPP!!!"
Finally after about her 10th dart (and I mean full blown, as fast a you can, biggest stride she's ever made, type of dart) she nearly, literally, got hit by a Suburban. At this point, I was so freaked out I was screaming "Oh My God! Oh My God" I had my hands over my face and I was in pure panic. Had the suburban and Ginger not both stopped, she would've gotten hit. I don't ever want to witness ANY dog get hit by a car, let alone my own.
She made it across the street and ran right up to me. Right at this point, a man had turned around and was about to get out and help me. I grabbed her and then waved to thank him, then he drove off and I dragged that dog into the house where I shut the door and just collapsed on my bed in tears.
My adrenaline was flowing so high and as soon as it was all over, I was weak and shaky.
I don't EVER want to go through that again and I'm not quite sure what the lesson was that I was supposed to learn from this, but I'm sure it was a good one. :)

"Terrific Two's" Well Visit.
Today was Peyton's 2 year well check-up. Here's his stats:
Height: 36.25" - 90th percentile
Weight: 30lbs, 1oz - 75th percentile
Head circumference: 19.5" - 75th percentile
He only gained about 2 lbs and 1.5" in the last 6 months. It's safe to say he's at the age where he stops growing like a weed! It's time to start getting used to buying him clothes that actually fit him in the moment -- I'm so used to buying a whole size bigger for the months ahead. As a matter of fact, we bought him a ton of winter clothes last summer (a size bigger, of course) and he's barely fitting into them now and will probably be wearing them next winter. AND, he's been wearing his summer clothes (since it's been so warm lately) from LAST YEAR!
I was reading up on two year olds, and something I found funny was, "Stalling techniques are common at bed time & nap time." This made me laugh so hard because it almost never fails, when I put Peyton down, he almost always shows me the "eat" sign. When he first started doing it, I thought, "Oh no! He's hungry and I'm getting ready to put him down. Do I feed him or not?" I don't think I ever actually gave in, but soon enough I noticed the "trend" and knew exactly what he was up to. FUNNY!
I bought him a toilet seat that goes on the actual toilet since he was doing pretty good at peeing on the big potty. Well, we've been using it several times a day and he loves it! He'll put it on the toilet and basically ask to go potty. He's gone every time and no treats needed, just a big cheer is enough motivation! It's a major pain though, taking off all his clothes and diaper, then putting it all back on, but I know it's worth it. No one said it was easy! I'm not sure what approach I'll be using, or when to really start. For now, this pace feels right.
So I'm calling this year the "Terrific Two's" since everyone seems to say boy's go through more of "Terrible Three's" than anything... great! Because I'm pretty sure I remember a few tantrums on his actual 2nd birthday! :) Well, this kid could throw them all day and I'd still love him more than anything in the world. So, here's to a terrific year!!

Here's us at the Mt Carmel carnival this weekend -
he refused to go on any bouncy house, but wanted
to go on this big boy ride.
On his first ride - can't wait to take him to Disneyland! :)

Happy 2nd Birthday, Peytor Gator!!!!!!!
![]() |
| Being a goofy 2 year old! |
It's so hard to put into words how much Peyton means to me. I could go on and on and make you gag with all the words that describe Peyton to me, but I still feel like I'm not getting out how much I love him! It's so unreal how much he means to me!!!!!!
I was much more affected by his birthday this year for some reason. I think it's just crazy how fast it really goes. I happened to look at my watch today at 12:54pm and for a moment thought back to 2 years ago at that exact moment, when I had just given birth and was holding Peyton for the first time... and then all the memories of those first few days in the hospital flew through my mind. I almost teared up in the grocery store reminiscing.
We had a great time today doing the usual & Grandma Mary came over for a bit. Then we ate dinner with Steve's family at LGO (we were celebrating Andy's birthday too) and they all came over after for cupcakes.
Peyton had a fantastic time at his birthday party on Sunday (more to come!) After our play date tomorrow, the bday celebrations will be officially over. Then, we have our 2 year well visit and the potty training pressure sets in.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PEYTOR GATOR!!!!!!

Saturday Sickness...
The weirdest thing happened to Peyton on Saturday. He woke up around 8am, then before I made my way into his room, he fell back asleep. Around 8:30 when I went to check on him, he opened his eyes then shut them again. I thought he was playing around.
I then changed his diaper... he fell asleep! I went to the bathroom where he followed me in there, and fell asleep on the floor with his blanky! So I took advantage of this sleepy boy and put him in our bed where we all fell back asleep until 10am.

After we woke up, he seemed hot and I knew he had a fever. That explains it! But then, he never fussed, cried, or seemed sick. He was just so lethargic! After a dose of Motrin, he cuddled on the couch with us for 30 minuets before he fell asleep again!
An hour later he woke up and ate and drank milk like no other. Soon enough, he wanted to cuddle so I sat down on the couch with him, where he fell asleep yet again.
I put him in his crib where he slept for 3+ hours. He woke up around 5pm. He seemed totally refreshed and back to himself. He was in bed by 8:30pm and that was it. He was completely fine on Sunday, thank goodness! But it was such a strange thing for him to be like that and not fussy or in pain. He had some bad diapers, so I'm sure it was a 24 hour bug. After all, he did have his first bar experience on Friday...
Long story short, Steve went to the Suns game Friday night with work friends. I asked Julie if she wanted to come over that night, and turns out she was going to the Suns game as well. The game didn't start until 8:30, so she invited me and Peyton out for dinner downtown beforehand. (Meanwhile Steve's doing his thing with his buddies before the game and I didn't wanna intrude). After dinner, we walked to the Tilted Kilt where Steve was and wanted me to come by before we headed home.
Well, the Tilted Kilt was packed with Suns Fans pre-gaming. Suddenly I felt like "that parent" who takes their child to the bar because they couldn't find a sitter and they're too selfish to not go. HA! Totally not the case, but I'm sure that's how it looked! I wasn't drinking, but that would've made me look worse, I'm sure! Peyton enjoyed it and as soon as the fans started leaving for the game, it died down a bit and he started flirting with the (barely dressed) waitresses. He kept lifting his shirt up so they gave him beads. It was hilarious!
We ended up having a great evening and the joke is that Peyton felt horrible on Saturday because he had his first bar experience Friday night!
For your enjoyment!
Lately when Ginger is calm and laying down, Peyton goes in for the kill. He takes the pillows off the couch and stacks them on her. Ginger's so good, she doesn't even mind! (until the day she snaps at him, eek!) He thinks it's so hilarious. And really, so do I. :)
Fashion Show.
We were at H&M yesterday and Peyton did a mini fashion show for us. He totally worked it! Enjoy!
