Today Dennis & Joan came to watch Peyton at swim lessons. And go figure, it was a rough day for him. He hasn't been like that since day two!
Well anyway, all he wanted to do was climb out and then jump in the water but NOT TO US. He was insisting he jump in the water where no one could catch him. Then he wanted to go to the baby pool and play. Steve wasn't 100% today (he did juicing all day and was out of it, LOL) so it was overall a kinda crappy day for lessons.
Joan pointed out that whenever the teacher would come over and ask him to blow bubbles, swim to her, etc, he would do it. And she's right, he would. But he wasn't really listing to mom or dad at all today.
So after lessons we got dressed and headed to Tee Pee Tap Room for some yummy Mexican food (buy buy juicing, HA) and Peyton was totally fine. Oh yeah, Peyton said, "Eat" a few times during the lesson and it dawned on me I didn't feed him much before, so I'm sure he was starving. Whoops!
Tomorrow is our last day!

Catch Up!
I have a lot of pictures I've been wanting to post from stuff over the past few months. I seemed to have gone on a hiatus, but I'm back in full swing!
Here's some pic's from my iPhone - you know how you can turn it so the camera is facing towards you and you can see yourself? Well I do that all the time with Peyton and he loves it. He always smiles really goofy. It's such a fake smile and he forces it out, it's hilarious to watch! He's doing it here in a few of the pics, especially the 2nd & last one:
We went straight to Steve's grandpa's grave site for a few minutes. It was nice to introduce Peyton to his Great Grandpa Landauer. :)
And here we are at GiGi's (Great Grandma Landauer's) house:
Sooooo... here's what we have when our kid is running off of no sleep... a wake up call of 5am the next morning (sleep begets sleep, people!) and so we threw him in our bed and he was out.
Here he is with the doggie he followed around at the grad party the next day. HE LOVES ALL DOGS!

Last month we went swimming at a friends house. Peyton had a huge Tammie Coe chocolate cookie that left a cute little mustache:
Back when it wasn't so hot, we drove to the park and walked to LGO for breakfast:
Here's us doing FaceTime with my sister. Julie and I like to snap some ugly shots of each other and then send them after we hang up. It's funny, promise. :) Well this one I captured ended up being kinda cute since Peyton is in the corner laughing at her!
I met my friends Megan & Siobhan at the Tempe Beach Park splash pad - it was seriously awesome! They had slides and all sorts of stuff. Definitely something Peyton will grow into, but he still enjoyed it.
We headed up to Flagstaff the first weekend in June for Steve's cousin Kevin's high school graduation. Here we are in the truck on the way up... notice Ginger in the back watching the traffic jam. ;)

Here's Peyton with Steve's cousins Megan and Brian. He's watching a game Brian's playing and thinks its so funny when the stick man falls over and dies:
Here's Kevin at his graduation. It was about three hours long. Peyton did fantastic for the first hour and 45 minutes, then not only was he sick of sitting, but he was beyond ready for his nap (considering it was 4pm!) {Congrats Kevin!!}

Okay, that's about all I can handle for tonight. I just remembered I still need to write about swim lessons today. More to come!
The Children's Museum of Phoenix.
It's awesome. Truly one of the best things I've ever taken Peyton to. My sister Julie and I spent about three hours there and hit just about everything. It was amazing to watch Peyton. Usually he kinda sticks by my side or asks me to join him whenever we go to the park or splash pad, anywhere where he can play. But at the museum, he was in a world of his own. He didn't call out for me once, he wasn't afraid of ANYTHING, he just studied e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g and played all day (we always say we have an Engineer on our hands). We'd take him to a different room and he would gladly go. He was a perfect angel the whole time and I was in heaven watching him. I know that sounds silly, but really, to see him so interested in stuff and not want his momma really made me feel good.
I had a really awesome mom moment (I'm going to brag and I'm sorry!) when we were at "the market" in the museum. The lady who works in the room told Peyton, who was putting all of his canned items in the veggie spot, that those cans and boxes don't go there. At first, she seemed a little annoyed. So I said, "Oops, sorry, come on Peyton, let's put them on the shelf where they belong."...
So she walks to the shelf and starts to help him / show him how to empty his cart correctly. Pretty soon she comes up to me and says, "He's unbelievable! I can't believe it. I told him once that the cans go here and the boxes go here and he did everything right! That's better than the employees that work here! Don't tell anyone, but I'd gladly hire him over some of the people who work here. He's such a smart boy and that means you're working with him. That says a lot for you, mom." Then she goes on to say, "He's such a charmer too! With those blue eyes and blonde hair, he won't be in your house for long." I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. This lady sees hundreds of kids and she definitely didn't seem like the type to dote on them so to have her say those things meant a lot to me.
It was a fantastic time, we'll be back again soon! Enjoy the pics!

Painting rocks with water.
Watching the big boys spin critters off the cactus - he thought it was hilarious!
Pencil car
Playing the wrench xylephone with pro Aunt Julie
Playing it with mama
Pickle car!
One of the rooms he could've spent hours in - very mechanical!
I forgot to mention how awesome the view of Phx is. There's huge windows throughout, so cool.
This noodle section is very deep, you could easily get lost in it. Peyton wasn't afraid at all - I wasn't prepared for him to go running through it!
Making pancakes. :)
Part of the mechanical room again.
Time to shop! I was afraid he'd never get a shopping cart since there aren't many. Another thing I was proud of - he was on a mission to get one and did it right away.
Measuring beans
This cart was already full when he found it. Ha!
Here's a video of Peyton playing the xylephone. He would stop and look at the trains (really they were cars) that would go over head.

Swim Lessons, Day 6.
Not much to report today - Steve and I were both in the water again. Peyton did everything he did yesterday. He loves climbing out of the water and jumping back in. So much that it's good he didn't learn how to do it sooner otherwise we probably wouldn't have ever learned anything - it's all he wants to do!
He's kicking really well and just has a good time. Steve and I went off the diving board after the lesson and I need to get his reaction on video because his laugh is hilarious! We played in the baby pool and again, loved it. Two days left of lessons!
Side note, I love how this forces us to get in the pool. Since we don't have one, we really wouldn't be swimming other than a handful times a summer. I can't wait for Carlsbad (can I get a HOLLA!) when we take him to the pool, it'll be nice that it'll be familiar to him and he can play.
Extra side note, how the heck does anyone survive this AZ HEAT?? Honestly, it's been sooooo hot that if you even go outside once, you've ruined your whole day and will never cool off. Another good thing about swim lessons - a way to cool off!

Swim Lessons, Day 5.
Today my sister went with me to swim lessons which worked out great since Steve had to work late. She got in the water with us and we had a fun time!
I was a little worried that since Steve wasn't with us, Peyton would get bored and give me a hard time, but he didn't!
He did SO good today. He didn't complain once. He did everything he'd done last week. Our biggest accomplishment today was learning how to climb out of the pool. And once he learned, he did it over & over & over. I think he was concerned at first that the pavement was hot because he kept saying "hot". As soon as I splashed it and showed him it wasn't hot, he was more motivated to climb out.
He also climbed across the wall and "jumped" in a lot. He really just falls in, we're working on the jump part. :)
Another new thing the instructor (Miss Janine) had the kids do today was swim to the wall. So we'd push him off right before the wall, just close enough to struggle a little and grab it on his own. He hasn't choked on water at all, sometimes he'll cough and sneeze, but he's never had any major moments.
After the lesson we went to the baby pool. This is where he really started climbing in and out of the water. He'd climb out, slide back in, then did that about 15 times. He finally looked like he was actually playing in the pool like a little kid rather than just wading.
Even though it seems like the swim lessons are sometimes very slow at the time, I love writing about it and realizing how much he really is accomplishing!

Church.
I decided it was time to buckle down and get my act together. I decided it was time to start going to church again and to take Peyton with me.
I went a few Sunday's ago for the first time in a while. A long while. Probably a few years. It felt good. I registered at our new church down the street and am taking the steps to get Peyton baptized (something we've been wanting to do since he was born, but had a conflict with Godparents and am finally getting my act together and making this happen).
So yesterday was the first time I took Peyton to church. Let me try to make this long story short...
We had Brice's 2nd birthday party yesterday. Peyton had a lot of sugar (something he normally doesn't get so it affects him fast) and as if leaving at 2pm wasn't late enough, he didn't fall asleep in the car like normal for being 2pm (sugar!) and about 5 min from home, he finally fell asleep. He woke up when I got him out and was wired. So, that was his nap. He wouldn't go back down. Normally, he'd fall right back asleep no prob. (sugar!)
He was a-okay the rest of the day, only because he was at home doing whatever he wanted to do. Fast forward to 4:45pm and I decide that I'm going to the 5pm mass. In my head, I decided to go alone and there's no way I'm taking Peyton after no nap (even though he was being decent).
I rush to gather money for the collection envelope, only to realize we have no cash. So I decided I'd put my envelope in with no money, so they at least know I went (they say to do that, it's how they "track" you're there... yeah, the politics bother me but whatever). So I already feel cheap and wrong. But I justified it with, "well this is practically my first time back in awhile, so it's all a learning experience. From now on I'll be better prepared. Lesson learned."
On my way out the door at 4:50 (the church is 2 min away and, you know me! Always late!) Steve says, "I thought you were taking Peyton? Isn't that the whole point?" Guilt enters. I say, "Peyton, wanna go to church with me?" He says so sweetly, "Yeah!"
I rush to gather toys, food, water, blankie, etc so he can make it through. He's dressed decently, but not how I'd like to have him dressed for church, but no time to change. We get in the disgustingly hot car, he gets burned on the belt buckle, or at least acts like he did, and we're off.
We pull up just after 5pm and rush to the church. I open the door with a huge brass door handle and WHAM! I knock Peyton's head with it and the crying begins. Instant goose egg. We calm down and I have a little convo with myself saying to chill the eff out. I'm rushing and this is what happens. We enter the church.
So we're those people who are underprepared and come in late. I'm the mom with the kid who's loud and people probably wonder why we're even there.
We made it through 40 min, which was great. But not easy. Let me tell you: He's moving around, up & down the pew. It's quiet and he stands up and farts... loud. Like I swear it echoed. I hope nobody thought it was me. His Thomas train somehow falls apart (has never happened before) and he says, "Oh no! Oh no!" over and over. He drops his train and the (probably already annoyed) person behind us picks it up. I drop the bulletin and the person behind us picks it up. He coughs and coughs in his sick cough, which I swear he hasn't done in days. Then finally, he decides to play "choo choo" in the aisle on the tiles that I'm sure he associates with a train track. He's SOOOO exhausted that there was NO reasoning with him. I pull him in from the aisle and he says NO! Goes back out. Pull him in again, NOOOO! I grab my purse and pick him up and we leave, all while he's screaming.
I put him down in the back part of the church (behind the closed doors) and he's still screaming and now sliding across the floor on his tummy. He's so limp and angry that I can't even pick him up. A lady back there glares. I throw my (already feeling guilty about) envelope in an empty basket sitting there for who-knows-what. Greattt, now they'll probably think I just swung by church real quick to drop it off, moneyless, in the wrong spot. I would've asked the glaring lady to put it in the collection basket for me, but no way was I talking to her. I probably should've just kept it. I take a deep breath and pick him up sideways and rush out of the church. It's a million degrees out and as if I wasn't already burning up.
This is sooooooo not Peyton. But this is sooooooo Peyton when he hasn't gotten his nap. I'm sooooooo stupid for doing this to us.
I cry the whole way to the car, open the doors and there was NO WAY IN H3LL I'm getting him in the car. He won't stop flailing enough for me to even hold him normally. I take a deep breath, rub my eyes and my contact falls out. Onto the asphalt. I try to put it back in and it burns like h3ll so I'm now one-eyed. (I have HORRIBLE eyesight). He calms down enough to where I'm able to get him in his car seat, but not without a fight. This time I'm sure he was burnt by the seat belt buckle and bloody murder screamed the whole way home. I felt so horrible for him, I'm nearly in tears writing this thinking about that cry. But I had to just. get. home.
I'm home and Steve's not. I have no house key. Did I say it's freakin hot? And I have one eye in?
He's calmed down now that he's out of his seat and I just hug him saying how sorry I am. He goes to the door and it's opened. Steve didn't lock it. Greattt. But, I'm not picking that fight. HA
The rest is history.
Soooo, I'm sure God wanted me to know that I shouldn't be rushed for church and to go only when I really am up for it. Next weekend we're going to church only under all the PERFECT circumstances (napped, fed, changed, etc) and Steve's going with me. Oh and, I realized there's a cry room where all the kids sit with their parents, duh! So we'll sit in there.
However, I'm thinking he's too young to go. I do want to get something out of church and with him with me, it's hard. I know he doesn't understand, but I also want him to learn we go to church and this is how we act. What age do you think is good to start taking your kid to church?
We also agreed that if he's had a long day or wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, it's not a good idea for him to go. Up until a certain age when he's old enough to know you go to church even if you're tried...but again, what age is that?
It'll be awhile before I can laugh about what happened yesterday, but know some day I will...
Ahhh, just another joy of parenting. :)

Swim lessons days 3 & 4.
Day 3
Steve & I both decided to get in the water with Peyton. It started out rough and Steve looked at me and said, "He never acted this bad yesterday." Yeahhhhh... I just wanted to climb out of the water and hide from him, because he's so much harder on me. Probably because I'm home with him all day and probably because he knows I give in easier. =)
I didn't get out of the water and within 5-10 min, he was great. He blew more bubbles again and did a lot of swimming back and forth between us. We dunked him about 5 times and he had a lot of fun.
Bonus: After the lesson, Steve wanted to jump off the diving board. Peyton thought this was the most hilarious thing he's ever seen! The laugh that came out of him every single time he'd hit the water was the loudest, most hilarious laugh you've ever heard! This 7 year old boy started showing off for Peyton, trying to get him to laugh at him too... which Peyton did. But nothing was quite as funny as daddy diving off the diving board.
Day 4
Today we both got in the water again. He did PERFECT today! He didn't whine or complain once! He's definitely happy in the water now, which is the main goal of the class. He blows bubbles on command - it's super funny when he does it because he trys to make that "bbbbbbb" sound with his throat instead of his lips and so it's very aggressive bubble blowing!
He swims between us well. His head goes below water and he does fine. He's kicking and today he basically turned over because he wanted to float on his back! He held onto the wall and got his own face wet when the coach told him to (like, "get your nose wet" then he'd dunk his face in to his nose, etc). He doesn't have the strength to pull himself out yet, but he's learning. He even jumped off the deck a few times (or really he just kinda fell into our arms). He doesn't know how to slide across the wall, I'd really like him to learn that.
After class today we wanted to dive off the diving board again but they were doing lessons in the deep end. :( So we spent some time in the baby pool. He loved walking around the sides of the wall.
Anyway, we're pretty impressed at how comfortable he's gotten in the water. The lessons are very relaxed and not too instructed, if that makes sense. But I guess he's learning a lot so we're happy with it.
We'll see what next week brings!

Arizona's Latest NEWS Anchors!
I finally landed my dream job!
Most of you probably don't know, but Freshman year I majored in Broadcasting with big dreams of becoming a NEWS Anchor. This is, once I got over my childhood dream of becoming a model. True story. ;) Then, summer before Sophomore year I changed majors to Education because Broadcasting was too hard!
Anyway, our friend Jackie works at News Channel 12 and offered to give us a tour of the station. We finally took her up on the offer and had a great time!
Here we are playing around where the Weather Man sits. I love the pic of Peyton. Looks like he's joking around like they do on TV. The last pic is my friend Jackie.

Julie's turn to sit in the hot seat.
"Come on guys! This is old news..."

So the room is like a big rectangle. When you walk in, this is what you see to the right. To the left are the couches and kitchen.
Our run in with Fay Fredricks!
Where people stand outside so they can be seen through the window.
This was such an awesome thing to be able to do. We also saw all the rooms where the producers sit and make sure everything works smoothly. I think I may want my old wannabe career back... :)
