Peyton's 1st swim lesson.

Today Peyton had his first swim lesson, ever!  He's enrolled at the public pool and goes Mon-Thurs for two weeks.  It's a 35 minute class and let me tell ya, it felt like an hour long class today!

A little backtrack - last summer he swam maybe a dozen times.  He didn't take swim lessons.  But he loved swimming a lot.  This summer he's gotten in the pool a few times.  Each time after about 10 minutes, he wanted OUT (obviously he's much more aware of what's going on this year).

So today I knew would be interesting.  He basically fought me the whole time.  I tried to distract him which helped at times, but overall he was interested in things like the ball on the other side of the pool or flat out tried to get out of my arms.

The swim instructor told me to not let him get out of the pool, because she has 5 year olds in that class (way too old for a beginner class) and it's because when they cry, their parents let them get out.  So we toughed it through (something I would've done anyway, but needed a little encouragement myself).

Today's class focused on blowing bubbles.  It took the whole 35 minutes for him to finally blow bubbles - but, he did it!  (it lasted just a few seconds and he only did it once, but he did it!)

We also focused on floating on our tummy.  So by the end of the class, he'd blown bubbles once and was very good at floating on his tummy, with my assistance.  By the end of class he had calmed down a bit so we practiced for a few more minutes when it was over.

I have a feeling that by the end of this week Peyton will be happy in the water at the very least, and hopefully accomplishing the lessons, even if it takes the whole time to do it once. (Baby steps!)

Tomorrow, Steve will be the one in the pool with our Peytor Gator!  :)

Beginning of class
By the look on my face, he's probably trying
to escape.
Floating pretty good.
No, we're not practicing hanging onto the wall,
he's trying to get the "ball" (blue & white thing).
End of class hi-five's!
He was SO happy after class, as if he was thankful we made
him do it.  He kissed me without asking and was so playful.  :)

PS - Auntie Julie, who's been hanging out with me a lot this past week, was there today too.
