Choo Choo! Peyton's Turning Two!

Here's a look at what Peyton's 2nd Birthday party invitation looks like:

His absolute favorite thing to play with right now are trains and he loves watching Thomas & Friends.  If he starts saying, "Choo Choo" and points to my phone or the tv, then we know he wants to watch it.  I can't wait for him to see all the train stuff at his party!  Let the planning begin!

Organic.

We have two orange trees and one pecan tree in our yard, which I think is so neat!

We've been picking oranges off our tree for a few weeks now, and just started to notice the pecans falling off.  They're both so yummy!

I made a lot of fresh squeezed orange juice, the old school way.  I hand juiced them, but really need to invest in a juicer now that we have these tress and probably will always have old mature orange trees in our yard, no matter where we move in this area.  LOVE!

D.I.Y.

I stumbled upon a little console table at Goodwill awhile back while I was on the search for an antique media table that Steve wanted to fix up.

A little background info - we have an old school mail box... and I mean so old school that it dates before what you and I probably remember.  Nope, not one of those that sits in front of your house, with an orange flag that you prop up when there's mail in it (that's what I remember from back in the day).  Our house has a slit in the brick, right by our front door, where the mail slides down right into our house.  Remember those?!  It's pure awesomeness.  Especially for the lazy folk who used to make it to the community mailbox only a few times per week.  :)

Anyway, so I found this little console table (it may have even been a night stand) at Goodwill that fits nicely under our mail slot.  I bought it for only $5.99!  Beautiful, solid wood.  Very proud of my bargain find!  Steve spruced it up this weekend - he added molding around the bottom and in the center, a new knob, and a nice paint job.  Wha-la!

It was a fun project!  We're still on the search for an antique media stand, hopefully we find one soon so we can finish up our house decorating!

Events!

Last week I decided on a whim to take Peyton to the Railroad Park.  It was a beautiful day and we needed to do something outdoors.  He loved it!  We spent a few hours on the playground and walking around.  We rode the train very last and he loved it so much that he refused to get off.  Tantrum!  Embarrassing!  Yes indeed, he's been throwing tantrums lately, this is about the fifth one but the FIRST with just me.  I felt super bad because it was past his nap time and he was hungry.  So I blame myself for a little bit of that one.

I got home and read my, "What To Expect: The Toddler Years."  I turned right to the tantrum section, only to notice it happened to be month 22... exactly where we're at!  Phew.  :)  I felt better after reading it for two reasons, 1) I responded almost exactly as they say you should, and 2) I'm better prepared for the next one.  And yes, I know this is only the beginning.  ;)

Thursday, my sister Laurie came down from Prescott and spent the afternoon at our house.  She just played with Peyton and cuddled with him all day.  That evening we met Steve in Anthem, where he was doing a final walk through with a client and since it was on Laurie's way back to Prescott, we met him there for dinner.

Friday morning I SIGNED THE PAPERS for our house that we sold - it's finally closed!!!  It took a lot longer than we thought it would, but the good thing is that it's now done & over and we got that one off our books!

That afternoon we met my friend Siobhan and Brice for lunch at Miracle Mile.  It was a quick lunch, since the boys were tired and it was very busy.  But we caught up and it was nice to see them.  I really miss our play dates with them!

My sister Julie came over that evening and we went to dinner at Arcadia Tavern.  We watched Bad Teacher (HILARIOUS!) and chilled.  Oh, and ate Girl Scout Cookies!  Somoa's are my fav.

Hope you're all having a great week!

GiGi's House.

Sunday was Dennis' birthday, so the family went to breakfast at Butterfield's.  After breakfast, the guys went golfing while Joan, Peyton, and I went to Flagstaff.

We went to visit Steve's Grandma.  It was so beautiful up there with a light snow falling all day.  We had a nice time visiting with GiGi (as Peyton calls her) and she was surprised to see Peyton and I.  She thought Dennis and Joan were coming, not Joan, Peyton and I.  :)  Peyton loved playing at her house and was very well behaved all day.

That night Joan and I headed back to their house in Flag and I had a horrible time getting Peyton to fall asleep.  He cried for an hour, with me going in a few times.  Finally I decided to go to bed and bring him with me.  Well that didn't work well because he just wanted to play!  It was actually super funny.  He would sit up in bed and start dancing, then he'd bend over and kiss/bite my face.  I was not making a peep because I wanted him to go to sleep.  Eventually I'd tell him to lay down, so he would, but then he'd sit right back up and dance then lean over and kiss/bite my face.  :)

Then I decided to put the pack in play in my room, in case the problem was that he was scared.  Well then he cried and cried some more.  I was SO TIRED that I actually fell asleep to him crying, only for him to let out a really good one and it woke me up, HA!  So then I grabbed him and brought him into bed with me again and he fell right to sleep... taking up the entire bed all night long!

I told Joan how excited I was to get into bed that night and read my book, then get a good night's sleep without Steve in the bed.  FAIL!  But it's all worth it for the little guy.

We drove home Monday morning.  It was a short trip, but the goal was to spend time with Steve's Grandma and that's what we did!

February 14th, 2012.

Wow, today is special for a few different reasons!

First - Happy Valentine's Day!!  I've always loved this holiday.  When I was little, I remember my dad always leaving a big card and a box of chocolates on the table for me when I woke up and a hand written note.  I remember my mom always gave us a card, chocolates and a stuffed animal.  Even when I went off to college she would give me a Valentine's gift.  And my Grandma always mailed me a cute card, if they weren't visiting from NE.  My Grandparents used to come to AZ this time of year for several years in a row and I remember loving it!  As a parent, I will definitely make today a special day for my kids, just like mine did.

Second - Happy 100th Birthday, ARIZONA!  I, for one, actually remember learning in History class that today is Arizona's birthday.  I've always remembered that and I'm sure it's because it falls on Valentine's Day.  It's been super cool seeing all of the Centennial signs that are going up on the freeway's around the valley.  When we were coming home from Flagstaff yesterday, we saw them putting one up just outside of Flag.  Very cool!  This is what the HUGE sign looks like:

Third - Today is exactly one month away from Peyton's 2nd Birthday!  This is too crazy to even believe.  My baby will be TWO!

I hope today is a special day for you all!
XOXO

Happenings.

We've celebrated a few birthday's over the past week.

Last Saturday we went to Steve's sisters house for Madison and Ian's birthday parties.  Madison turned 12 and Ian turned 3.  Peyton has a grand 'ole time playing with all the kids and all the toys.  He was the youngest one there and loved it!  :)  I didn't take any pictures, but someone got a few great shots of Peyton and emailed them to me:

Tuesday we went to Dennis & Joan's to celebrate Ryan's 26th birthday.  She made steak, potatoes, salad and chocolate cake.  Happy Birthday, Ryan!  You're closer to 30 than 20!  ;)

Yesterday, I woke up at 5am with a nasty stomach bug and spent the day in my pj's in bed.  Thank goodness my mom had already planned on coming over, because she watched Peyton all day while I slept it off.  Today I feel a lot better, other than a sore stomach.

Only a few more days until the Super Bowl.  Who are you rooting for?!  I didn't get into football too much this year, probably because Steve was bummed the whole season about the crappy year for the Colts.  BUT, I am excited for the Super Bowl par-tay!
