Girls on the Run.

I mentioned awhile back a program called Girls on the Run that I was invited to Coach with my friend Megan.  Today was the first day & I'm excited to talk about it!

First off, I'm actually pumped to get back into the classroom (or on the field, in this case) with 3rd-5th grade girls.  It's a 10 week program (on Monday & Wednesday's) where four of us coaches teach about 20 girls self-respect & healthy lifestyles through running activities.  On May 7th, we'll end the season with a 5k run.

Side note, I'm very lucky that my mom and Steve's dad are able to watch Peyton on Monday & Wednesdays, so no babysitter needed!  :)

Anyway, today was day 1 and it went great, but sadly, our fearless leader Megan, was home sick with two puking boys and herself.  She was so disappointed to miss out on something she brought to her school and has been working so hard on for nearly a year.  And we, the three other leaders, were so sad and really, scared to death, to be without her!

To make it worse, it was raining (let's not forget to mention it's been 70* & sunny for the past several weeks) and another coach had to leave early for a last minute signing of papers to sell her house.  BUUUUT, we did great with what we had and the girls seemed to be very excited about the season.  So here's to a great first season... GooooOOOO TEAM!  GIRLS ON THE RUN IS SO MUCH FUN!  ;)

Final Cranial Band Check-Up!

Last Wednesday we were supposed to have Peyton's final helmet check-up, but because of his ear infection drama the night before, we had to reschedule.

So yesterday was the day!  It had been five weeks since his last one (remember he was released to wearing it at night only, so it was okay to go this long).  His measurements hadn't changed in nearly 8 weeks, so it was good to know he wasn't regressing.  We were given the okay to stop treatment and I felt like he deserved a certificate of completion or at least a mini graduation ceremony.  It's a big deal!

However, Steve & I decided to have him continue wearing it at nights for another 3-4 weeks.  We were told this decision is up to us, and completely reasonable.  Perhaps we're being anal, but we don't care!  We're taking no chances!

We won't be going back for another appointment, we're just supposed to stop within 4 weeks and be done for good.  We're both happy with the results and to this day I would tell any parent who's considering doing this to DO IT.

We're very thankful we made the decision to go with this and the end result for Peyton is not only a nice round head, but a very expensive toy.  It's one of his favorites!  :)

Today.

After Peyton's morning nap, we went to Petsmart to get dog food for poor Ginger who hadn't eaten a full meal in nearly 24 hours, oops.  I showed Peyton the parakeets and he went crazy!  He loved em, and I'd post the video if I didn't sound like a parakeet myself in it.  :)

Next stop - Target!  A little bit of history real quick.  Peyton started to laugh at stuffed animals, or more like anything fake with a face, about two weeks ago.  He has a certain little laugh that sounds like, "heh heh heh."  It's not full blown, more like a chuckle.  Whenever I hear that I know he's looking at a stuffed animal.  So we were at Target and suddenly I hear this laugh.  I do a 360 to see what he could possibly be laughing at and there it was - something with a face!

This is what he spotted

This orange little guy is
what started it all

Then we headed to Steve's work to drop off some stuff.  Always a hit with the ladies there.  :)  I got a video of him "walking," which he just started doing about three days ago.  It came out of nowhere!

And as for tonight - American Idol!  It's become a guilty pleasure, since I feel like the show has run its course.  I'm a little bit of an undercover fan these days, but it could be worse!  (The Bachelor anyone? ha)

Hope you all have a great evening!

Peyton's first ear infection (hmph).

I am not very proud to be writing about this.  But, I might feel better about it if I do.

Peyton got his first ear infection last week.  Talk about guilt!  Who knew a mother could feel guilty when her son got an ear infection?

Well for starters, I never thought I would have a kid who got ear infections (I'm sure many of you moms laugh at this) but really, I just never thought he would get them.  And hopefully that can remain true, with this being his first & last.  (A girl can dream!)

Secondly, I feel as though had I been able to nurse Peyton longer than I did, he wouldn't have gotten an ear infection... and that's where the guilt comes from.

Well anyway, our poor baby woke up last Tuesday night at 11:30pm, just as I snuggled myself into bed, and he didn't go back to sleep until 2:30am.  Yes, for 3 hours straight he was crying in pain.  We tried everything, including bringing him into our bed, and nothing worked.  Finally I realized he was in the most pain laying flat, so I slept on the couch with him all night, propped up on me.

We got him into the pediatrician stat that next morning and learned he has a left ear infection.  He was given amoxicillin and tylenol w/ codeine.  Tidbit: we also learned he weighs exactly 23 pounds with clothes and a diaper on.  =)

Soooo, after 24-48 hours on antibiotics, he started coming back to his old self again... just in time for his buddy Owen's first birthday party that was on Saturday!  But, he has a nasty cough still, and I think we overdid it with him this past weekend because he started to regress.  I spent all day Sunday and Monday making sure he got his rest though, and it's safe to say he's over the worst, which makes us all very happy!

Here's to no more ear infections.  EVER!

Just for fun.

I've been doing a little redecorating around the house.  I'm trying to ad more color, since I feel like everything in either black or brown.  It's damask inspired, and a little eclectic.  It's definitely a work in progress, but here's a few fun things I've got so far!

~Not sure where this is going yet, but loved it~

~Photo wall for the hallway.  Still working on this...~

Steve's been working on the office for a month now, and after some cleaning up, it'll be complete!  He redid the drywall to smooth it out, and built us two desks from scratch!  He couldn't find the type of desks he wanted in the stores, so he just made them.  Having a handy dandy husband is pretty exciting.

10 Months!

We're two months away from Peyton's first birthday!  It's creeping up way too fast, but oddly enough, we're excited our baby is turning into a toddler.  He's so much fun, and as I hear, they just keep getting more fun as the time goes on!

Oh where to begin!  At the beginning of this month, Peyton started waving.  Sometimes he'll wave with one "hand," and I say "hand" in quotations, because it's more like one arm.  :)  And sometimes he'll wave with both "hands."  He always gets really excited when he waves and his whole body gets into it!

This was a huge month in the teething department.  He cut four teeth, all on top.  Coincidently, he's also had a few colds (I still think it's connected).  His newest trick now that he has upper and lower teeth is... GRINDING!  He's always grinding those teeth together, and makes the funniest, most serious face while doing it.

This past month I've really noticed his personality bloom.  He's always been very happy & cheerful, but man, our newest entertainment during the day is each other!  He's constantly laughing at his mommy's goofy personality and loves when I say, "Rock on!" and "Down Ginger, down!" and I'm always laughing at him laughing.

Mid-month he started dancing to music, and loves it.  He'll hear music way before I do, and when I see him bounce, I stop and listen for it, and sure enough there's music playing.  I personally think he already looks like Steve when he bops to music, haha.  It's the way he moves his neck or something, it's great!

Towards the end of the month, he started blowing bubbles in his mouth.  He'll make this certain humming noise when he's doing it.  He's getting really good & makes bigger bubbles than I can!

He can, or more like, will, hold a 4 oz bottle and has the sippy cup down pretty well.  He has yet to hold the 8 oz bottle, but I know he can do it, he just knows I will do it!  He's still learning that he needs to tip the sippy up when it runs out of milk.  His nifty high chair allows me to recline him back so I do that to help him out.  Believe it or not, I totally miss cuddling during our feedings.  I sometimes feed him a bottle just so I can cuddle with him.  :)

And last but not least, we're still waiting for him to start crawling!  He's starting to army crawl a little, and still gets on all fours as if he's about to take off any second.  We saw the pediatrician last week (next post!), who says he's just fine and may never crawl.  He's hitting all of his milestones and recognized that he's a very chill baby and there's absolutely nothing to worry about.  So in the meantime, I'll just continue to enjoy the less chaotic household I have since he's not on the move yet.

And for the (my) record, he's wearing 12 or 18 month clothing.  He's taking, on average, 24 oz of formula a day, and eating 3 meals with a snack & water.  He's starting to push away pureed foods and wants to feed himself only.  He's showing that he knows to put the spoon in the bowl and back into his mouth, which amazed us!  But for now, he feeds himself with his fingers.

Ten Months Old!

Peyton & his partner in crime!

One of his best looks. =)

Loves feeding himself!

 And LOVES teasing Ginger!

...Awww, Gingie!  We love her a lot too!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Last Monday was my dads birthday.  Peyton made him a cute little card:
The cutest thing about this picture (above) is that I took it as my dad was talking to him on speaker phone.  My dad had said something and Peyton smiled, and I snapped the pic.  :)

Then on Thursday, we went over and spent the day and a good part of the night with him!  We had a fun time and before we knew it, it was 11 pm, and we still had an hour drive ahead of us!  Yes, it was a very late night for Peyton, but he didn't show one sign of tiredness.  He was just happy to be at his grandpa's house.

Here's proof that he was having fun.  This was taken about 10:30pm!

Happy 90th Birthday, Grandma Jane!

January 1, 2011 (1-1-11) was Steve's grandma's 90th birthday... sounds lucky to me!  Grandma Jane is doing amazing for 90 years young.  She looks fantastic and her health is great.  We celebrated with her on her birthday, along with the extended family, for a big surprise party!

We were planning on ringing in the new year up North in Flagstaff (where grandma lives), but with all the snow and icy roads, we decided to drive up New Years Day instead.  So, we rang in the New Year here, by going to dinner and having our own fireworks display -- the highlight of Steve's year, I think!  We made it to midnight, kissed, then off to bed.  Peyton slept through all the noisy fireworks we let off right outside his window, then again through all the "booms!" at midnight.  It was perfect.  :)  Fun fact:  this was our 10th New Years that Steve and I kissed at midnight.  :p

So on Saturday, we arrived in Flagstaff (with no road problems at all!  however, there was snow on the mountains starting Scottsdale!  We saw snow on our entire drive up there!) just in time to mingle and see Grandma Jane walk into her surprise birthday party!  We had a great dinner, and went back to Uncle Gregg & Aunt Terri's house for presents and more fun (& fireworks, courtesy of Steve!)  Grandma was truly happy with her party, and seemed surprised to see all of her kids there, including the one's from CO & NY!

It was a great weekend, and a nice start to 2011.  Again, HAPPY 90TH BIRTHDAY, GRANDMA JANE!  xoxo
